A bit out of the ordinary for us, but I couldn't pass up this quality product that hit on so many unmet needs out there. May Metal Fabricators is a Canadian firm that started out making lunches pails in the 1930s for the workers in Sudbury-area mines.

Today, the tradition continues with a modern twist, offering both pink and camo print lunch boxes along with the classic stainless-steel look.

Built tough out of 100% aluminum, they're designed to last decades, don't contain any plastics (thus you don't a toxiciology degree to figure out if they're safe) and completely recyclable at the end of their long lifespan. As a kid's lunch box, this type of construction also means that no smells are absorbed and when something ends up fermenting in there, it's easily washed out (instead of thrown out). The generous size, but light weight means you can fit a full day's worth of snacks and meals in a single box. Not just for kids, these will serve the commuter well too.
