This was the first product we carried from Maple Landmark - it remains among the most popular with good reason. I initially sought the product out for my own son - his sharp new teeth were making short work of all the painted finishes on his toys. The whey-based finish of these rattles was just the ticket - nolacquer or paint to scrape off. The size and weight were perfect for his little hands - easy to handle and fun to manipulate, but not so heavy that dropping it on himself brought a flood of tears.
Maple Landmark's truly natural rattles have ends that are made from sustainably harvested local maple and have a whey-based finish. The rattle is 2.5" long and the oval ends measure 1.5" X 2.5". In two styles. The bell floats freely for maximum sound. The beads float freely on the pegs for maximum sound and movement.
Whey Finish uses a byproduct of the cheese-making process, developed by the University of Vermont and now produced by Vermont Natural Coatings of Hardwick, VT.
